Indoor Season Begins - Whoa Is Me

November 12th, 2007 · No Comments · Training

Sadly, the outdoor season has come to a close (at least organized outdoor) which means it’s time to move indoors. Indoor skating is a whole other beast when compared to outdoor. You can get away with good skating skills, strength and fitness outdoors to a wide degree, but indoor you have to have some technique - well, some good technique.

Yeah, I’m lacking in that category. So far my indoor experience has been one problem after another. First I realized just how weak my technique is. Then I realized my K2 Radical Pro skates, while “transition” skates, are not built for the stresses of indoor skating. My left ankle is killing me from the repeated crossovers - badly executed crossovers mind you.

Finally yesterday I took my first fall, which I was somewhat glad to get it over with. Then toward the end of the practice during lap the pack, my right skate rear support actually cracked, nearly sending me down again.

I’ve got some Roces boots and a frame on loan from some kind speedskating folks that I hope I can use between the time I get molded and get my custom Hyper Sincro boots (I’m getting molded this Saturday.)

Here’s a dark picture of going around the corner, standing up too high and not doing enough underpush. You can kind of see my left ankle supinating too much as well, which I can’t seem to correct. Probably why my ankle hurts.
