To Shave, or Not to Shave, That is the Question

December 30th, 2007 · No Comments · Road Rash, Skating Equipment

I’ve had two practices under my belt with the new custom skates and so far they feel great. I’m having a little trouble finding the top of my frames, but I think that will come in time. Also, having a little numbness in the toes after awhile, but again I think when they break in that should disappear.

Of more concern was the fact that today I felt like I was losing my edge in every corner - like it was sliding out. Which of course led to a fall and some fun knee abrasions.

The bummer is I ripped my brand new UnderArmour tights, and I was not wearing my new knee pads.

It also makes me wonder if I should shave/wax the legs. It’s a lot of work to keep up, but when you have a nasty fall it can really save you from dealing with the hair in the wound. This one was not bad and I was able to shave the hair off, but if it had been worse it could have been a real pain.

I’ve fallen about 4 times now indoors, last year during outdoor season I only fell once on a solo training skate, and that was because I was trying to get down a really steep hill (really steep) to get back to a trail (not normal skating).

But falls are inevitable. I’ll have to think about it.
